Even when the Supreme Court has CLEARLY rejected this scheme, the State of Michigan continues to do it. Taking homes for back taxes, sometimes less than TEN DOLLARS and often after a state employee tells them their debt is satisfied.
Taking a persons home for back taxes is a necessary LAST RESORT for when taxes are willfully evaded. But taking the entire equity in the home, above and beyond the debt is unconscionable. Keep in mind, the amount of the back taxes often FAR EXCEEDS the actual initial taxes due sue to usurious rates of interest and penalties.
